Engineering
Founding ML Engineer, Forecasting
Own the predictive engine: the model that turns a messy transaction history into an honest forecast with a confidence range you can defend.
- Location
- San Francisco, CA or remote in the US
- Type
- Full time
- Compensation
- $170,000 to $210,000 plus 0.4% to 0.9% equity
Tellwise forecasts an individual's cashflow for the weeks ahead. The predictive engine is the product: recurring-pattern detection, trend projection, the confidence band, and the warnings that fall out of it. Every number a warning shows is computed here, not by a language model.
You would be the third engineer. The work decides whether people trust the forecast. A confident number that turns out wrong is worse than a wider range that turns out right.
What you would own
- Own the forecast: recurring detection, projection, volatility and the confidence range.
- Build the evaluation set. Every change is measured against histories with known outcomes before it ships.
- Keep the forecast honest when the history is thin or the income is irregular.
- Make ingestion survive the dozen ways banks export a CSV.
What we are looking for
- Five or more years building systems other people depend on, with real time-series or forecasting work.
- You have opinions about evaluation that came from being burned.
- You write TypeScript comfortably, or you will within a fortnight.
- You care about the difference between a demo and a thing someone checks before payday.
How hiring runs
A thirty-minute call with a founder, then a paid work session on a real problem from our backlog (three to four hours), then two conversations with people you would work alongside. Four steps, usually inside two weeks. We tell you where you stand at every one, and we reply either way.
